Fatal Three-Vehicle Crash Involving Semi Shuts Down Westbound I-494 Near Highway 100 in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON, MINNESOTA – The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a fatal three-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on westbound I-494 near Highway 100 in Bloomington that occurred at approximately 4:18 a.m. on June 13, 2026, within an active construction zone.

According to the State Patrol's preliminary investigation, a 2011 Honda CR-V was traveling westbound in the far right lane while a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling in the adjacent center-right lane. Investigators say the two vehicles made contact in the center-right lane. Following the initial collision, the Honda came to rest in the right lane near construction cones while the Jeep stopped in the left lane with its front end against the median barrier.

Moments later, a 2025 Peterbilt tractor-trailer traveling westbound approached the crash scene and struck the Jeep. The impact pushed the Jeep into its final resting position facing north in the left lane while the semi came to rest on the right shoulder.

Occupants Involved

According to the State Patrol:

  • The driver of the Honda CR-V was a 25-year-old Bloomington man with a 24-year-old female passenger from Shakopee.

  • The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was a 64-year-old man from Shakopee.

  • The driver of the Peterbilt semi was a 49-year-old man from Ham Lake.

The State Patrol has not publicly identified which occupant(s) died in the crash. The condition and number of injuries to the surviving occupants have not yet been released. Airbags deployed in both the Honda CR-V and Jeep Grand Cherokee. No airbag deployment was reported in the Peterbilt tractor. The roadway was reported to be dry at the time of the crash.

Numerous agencies responded to the scene, including:

  • Bloomington Fire Department

  • Minnesota State Patrol

  • Edina Police Department

  • Allina Ambulance

  • Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT)

  • Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office

The crash caused significant disruptions along westbound I-494 during the early morning hours as emergency crews investigated and cleared the scene.

Investigation Ongoing

The Minnesota State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including what led to the initial collision between the Honda and Jeep and the sequence of events that followed. Additional information, including the identity of the deceased and any contributing factors, is expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
