Burnsville Police Investigate Morning Assault on Crystal Lake West Park Trail

BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA - Police are investigating a reported assault that occurred Thursday morning on a park trail near Crystal Lake West, prompting increased patrols and a request for community assistance.

According to the Burnsville Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 8:15 a.m. on January 1, 2026, to a report of an assault near 11 Crystal Lake West, which is near the Crystal Lake West boat launch. A female victim told police she was walking on the trail when she was approached from behind by an unknown male suspect.

Incident Details

The victim reported that the suspect placed a hand over her mouth and stated that he had a weapon. She was able to fight off the suspect, escape the area, and return home safely, where she called 911.

The suspect is described as:

  • A light-skinned Black male

  • Approximately 5’7” tall

  • Believed to be in his 30s

  • Wearing dark-colored clothing and a gray vest

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

As a precaution, Burnsville police have increased officer presence and patrols in nearby parks and surrounding neighborhoods. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behavior immediately.
