BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA – A Burnsville man has been formally charged with second-degree murder after allegedly stabbing the mother of his children to death in their townhome on Wednesday morning while two of their young children were inside. According to a criminal complaint filed by the Dakota County Attorney’s Office, 48-year-old Jason Philip Filas is accused of killing 32-year-old Danielle Grace Warren at her residence in the 2000 block of E 117th Street East on May 7. The incident occurred just after 9:30 a.m. and followed a 911 call from the victim’s sister, who reported a violent domestic disturbance unfolding in real time.

Court records state that Warren had called her sister in fear, saying that Filas — who was monitoring the home’s security camera remotely — had seen another man leave the house earlier that morning. She told her sister she was trying to leave with her children because she was scared of what Filas might do.
A second phone call from Warren to her sister ended in terror. Warren began screaming, “He has a knife! Call 911!” before the call disconnected. When her sister called back, Filas allegedly answered the phone and said, “She should have never cheated on me. You better call 911,” before ending the call.
Officers arrived minutes later and found blood on the front door handle. After forcing entry into the townhome, police discovered Warren deceased in the living room area. She had sustained multiple stab and slashing wounds to the face, neck, and chest. A 12-inch kitchen knife covered in blood was found nearby. Two of her children, ages 5 and 9 months, were inside the home at the time of the attack but were not physically harmed.
Filas fled the scene and was later located by Lakeville Police, who spotted his vehicle traveling at high speed. During the traffic stop, Filas exited the vehicle, ignored commands, and advanced on the officer, saying, “Shoot me.” After a brief foot chase, officers deployed tasers to take him into custody.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office reports that Warren suffered at least nine stab wounds and ruled the death consistent with homicidal violence. Her identity was confirmed Thursday afternoon.
Filas and Warren had a documented history of domestic abuse. In March 2025, Burnsville Police responded to a previous domestic assault between the two. Filas was charged in that incident and had recently pled guilty to violating a domestic abuse no contact order related to Warren.
Filas is being held on a charge of second-degree murder with intent, not premeditated. If convicted, he faces up to 40 years in prison.
$2 Million Bail Set with Strict Release Conditions
On May 9, a Dakota County judge set bail for Filas at $2,000,000, citing the severity of the allegations and his history of domestic violence. Under Minnesota law, the court imposed both bail and a series of strict pretrial conditions due to the domestic abuse context of the case.
If released, Filas would be subject to the following requirements:
No travel outside of Minnesota without written court approval
Relinquishment of his passport
Surrender of all firearms and prohibition from residing where firearms are present
No use or possession of firearms, ammunition, or explosives
Prohibition on alcohol or controlled substance use, with random chemical testing
Mandatory participation in a pretrial release program
Compliance with any child protection orders
No contact with the victim’s children, family members, or others named in the court order
Must remain at least one mile away from the victim’s residence
Must keep the court and attorneys updated on his address
Must remain law-abiding and attend all future court appearances
Filas remains in custody at the Dakota County Jail.
