LAKE ELMO MN: Two Chicago brothers are facing first-degree drug charges in Washington County after authorities allegedly discovered approximately two kilograms of fentanyl during a traffic stop in Lake Elmo.
According to criminal complaints filed in Washington County District Court, 27-year-old Malik Cortez White and 34-year-old Marque Antwon White, both of Chicago, have each been charged with one count of first-degree controlled substance crime involving possession of 25 grams or more of heroin or fentanyl.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine for a first controlled substance conviction. A second or subsequent controlled substance conviction carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
According to the complaints, at approximately 11:05 p.m. on May 28, 2026, Minnesota State Patrol troopers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for several alleged traffic violations near Interstate 94 and Manning Avenue in Lake Elmo.
Court documents state that Malik White and Marque White were the only occupants of the vehicle. During the stop, troopers reportedly observed several indicators of possible drug-related criminal activity and requested assistance from a narcotics detection K-9.
According to the complaint, the K-9 alerted to multiple areas near the rear of the vehicle. A subsequent search allegedly led troopers to discover two kilograms — approximately 2,000 grams — of a white powdery substance located in the back seat.
Authorities stated the substance later tested positive for fentanyl.
Both men were subsequently charged in connection with the alleged possession of the narcotics.
The allegations contained in the criminal complaints have not been proven in court. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
