Dakota County Sheriff Joe Leko Announces Re-Election Bid

DAKOTA COUNTY MN: Dakota County Sheriff Joe Leko has announced that he is seeking re-election, highlighting nearly three decades of service with the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office.
In a public statement, Leko said he has spent 28 years serving the community in a variety of roles within the department, emphasizing his commitment to professionalism, integrity, and accountability throughout his career.
“Serving as your Sheriff has been the most challenging—and most rewarding—role of my career,” Leko said. “Now more than ever, Dakota County needs strong, proven public safety leadership grounded in experience and sound judgment.”
Leko described Dakota County as his home and said his work in public safety is personal to him. He pointed to progress made during his tenure but noted that additional work remains.
“While we’ve made meaningful progress, there is still important work ahead,” he said. “I remain committed to earning your trust every day and ensuring Dakota County continues to be a safe, strong, and thriving place to live—today and for generations to come.”
Leko also expressed appreciation for community support and indicated that more details about his campaign will be released as it formally launches.
