EAGAN: A man was taken into custody Saturday morning after Eagan police say he fired a handgun toward officers as they attempted to detain him during a domestic disturbance.

According to the Eagan Police Department, officers responded around 6:10 a.m. to the 4400 block of Lynx Court for a reported domestic disturbance.

Police say officers encountered the people involved outside the residence and attempted to detain an adult man. The man allegedly resisted officers and refused repeated commands to comply.

As officers worked to detain the man on the ground, police say he produced a handgun and fired a single shot in the officers' direction. No one was struck by the gunfire.

Officers were able to take the man into custody after several minutes, according to police.

Police said officers involved in the incident suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The man sustained minor abrasions and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Police said the man is expected to be booked into the Dakota County Jail on weapons-related charges.

Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The incident remains under investigation, and Eagan police said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
