Eagan Man Charged After Seven-Hour Standoff with Police

Updated: August 18, 2025, at 1:50 PM.

EAGAN, MINNESOTA - A 34-year-old Eagan man is facing felony charges following a standoff with law enforcement that drew a massive police response and SWAT deployment earlier this week.

According to court documents filed in Dakota County District Court, Tyler Rye Kordosky of Eagan has been charged with threats of violence with intent to terrorize. This felony offense carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Incident Details

The case stems from an incident that began around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, when Eagan Police were dispatched to Kordosky’s residence on the 4000 block of Albany Circle. According to the criminal complaint, a family member had requested officers respond quietly, without lights or sirens, because Kordosky was experiencing a mental health crisis. Witnesses told police that Kordosky had been struggling for the past two years and that his behavior had recently worsened. Before officers’ arrival, Kordosky allegedly became angry with his father, damaged property inside the home, and made threatening remarks suggesting harm if his father returned.

The court documents then state that Kordosky’s mother warned officers that there were firearms in the house and that her son might resist police intervention. When she went upstairs to speak with him, officers remained downstairs. During the exchange, Kordosky allegedly realized police were present, produced a handgun with an extended magazine, and chambered a round. Officers downstairs reported hearing the weapon being loaded and immediately declared a “Code 6,” a signal indicating an urgent escalation and need for backup.

SWAT Response and Standoff

Police retreated from the home and quickly secured the area. Over the following hours, South Metro SWAT and approximately 40 officers from multiple agencies, including the Inver Grove Heights Police, Burnsville Police, the Minnesota State Patrol, and the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene.

A shelter-in-place alert was issued to nearby residents around 5:00 p.m., as Kordosky remained barricaded inside with reported access to firearms. The standoff continued for roughly seven hours before Kordosky surrendered peacefully to authorities. He was then transported to a hospital and placed on a 72-hour hold for evaluation.

Firearms Recovered

Court documents state that following the incident, investigators executed a search warrant at Kordosky’s residence and seized 10 firearms. Authorities also discovered an additional eight firearms belonging to Kordosky that were being held at a friend’s father’s residence.

Court Proceedings and Bail Conditions

Kordosky made his initial court appearance today, August 22, 2025. A Dakota County judge set the following conditional bail options:

  • $60,000 unconditional bail, or

  • $50,000 conditional bail, with restrictions.

If released, Kordosky must:

  • Remain in Minnesota unless granted written court approval.

  • Have no contact with the residence on Albany Circle.

  • Surrender all firearms and any permits to carry, and do not live in a residence where firearms are present.

  • Abstain from alcohol, controlled substances, and THC, with exceptions for prescribed medications.

  • Submit to random testing and comply with treatment recommendations.

The latest court records show that Kordosky has not posted bail and remains in custody in the Dakota County Jail.
