Report of Armed Person at Farmington High School Turns Out to Be Person Carrying Media Tripod

FARMINGTON MN: A report of a person with a weapon on the grounds of Farmington High School prompted a large emergency response Thursday afternoon, but authorities later determined the suspected weapon was actually a media tripod and that there was no threat to the school.

The report came in at approximately 2:15 p.m., prompting the Farmington Police Department to respond to the school grounds. Police located the person involved and determined the individual was carrying a media tripod, not a weapon, and was not considered dangerous.

Farmington Fire Department, the Minnesota State Patrol, Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, Lakeville Police Department and Burnsville Police Department also responded to assist.

Officials said there was no threat to students or staff, and the scene has since been cleared.

“We appreciate the speed at which our partners responded with us to secure the scene and that everyone is safe,” officials said.
