Farmington House Fire Under Investigation

FARMINGTON, MINNESOTA - A Friday morning house fire in Farmington is under investigation after firefighters responded to flames reportedly coming from the basement of a home that was reported unoccupied and recently sold.
Just before 8 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, Farmington Fire, Lakeville Fire, Farmington Police and Allina Health were called to a reported structure fire in the 5000 block of Upper 182nd Street West. Initial reports indicated a passerby spotted smoke and flames coming from the home's basement and reported the fire.
The first crews arrived at approximately 8:01 a.m. and confirmed smoke was showing from the residence and that they had a working structure fire. By approximately 8:05 a.m., initial responders confirmed they were dealing with a working basement fire. Crews began attacking the blaze, with water reported on the fire by approximately 8:10 a.m. Firefighters quickly made progress. At approximately 8:14 a.m., the fire was reported under control, and crews began working on remaining hot spots while checking the structure for any extension of the fire into other areas of the home.
Firefighters remained at the scene conducting overhaul operations, and the fire was reported fully extinguished by approximately 8:40 a.m. No injuries were reported.
Investigators are still investigating the cause of the fire. Investigators are considering the circumstances suspicious because the home was reportedly unoccupied at the time, as it had reportedly been recently sold. Authorities have not announced a determination regarding how the fire started.
