FARMINGTON, MINNESOTA – Dozens of community members gathered outside the Farmington Police Department Saturday night, November 1, 2025, to honor and mourn the loss of Officer Pete Zajac, whose passing has deeply affected the city and surrounding communities.

The memorial in front of the police station glowed in blue light, a color symbolizing law enforcement solidarity, with a large banner of Officer Zajac displayed prominently on the left. On the right, coolers full of Mountain Dew, a touching tribute to one of his favorite drinks, served as a small but heartfelt reflection of his personality and the simple joys that made him beloved by those who knew him.

Among those in attendance were members of Officer Zajac’s family, fellow officers from both the Farmington Police Department and neighboring departments, and representatives from the Minnesota State Patrol, Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, Soldier 6, and the Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police. Staff and students from the Farmington School District, along with local friends and neighbors, also joined the gathering, all united in remembrance, sharing both tears and laughter as they reflected on his life and service.

Officer Zajac, who also served as a School Resource Officer, was remembered not only for his commitment to public safety but also for his kindness, humor, and devotion to his community. The memorial continues to serve as a place for residents to pay their respects, leave flowers, and show support for the Zajac family and the Farmington Police Department during this difficult time.

The City of Farmington has expressed its gratitude to surrounding law enforcement agencies for their assistance in providing coverage as the department and community grieve. Community members are encouraged to keep Officer Zajac’s family, friends, and colleagues in their thoughts and prayers.
