FARMINGTON, MINNESOTA - A 19-year-old man is facing felony and gross misdemeanor charges in Dakota County after allegedly sending a series of violent and threatening messages to a former girlfriend, according to a criminal complaint filed in district court.

Tyler John Waggoner, of Hoffman, Minnesota, has been charged with one count of Threats of Violence (Intent to Terrorize), a felony, and one count of Harassment (Intent to Injure), a gross misdemeanor. The charges stem from an incident reported on April 21, 2026, in Farmington.

Alleged Threatening Messages

According to the complaint, an officer with the Farmington Police Department responded to a residence in Farmington for a reported threat and stalking call. At the scene, officers spoke with an adult woman and her juvenile daughter (the victim). The victim told police she had recently ended a relationship with Waggoner and that he had begun sending increasingly alarming messages.

The complaint goes on to state that investigators reviewed text messages allegedly sent by Waggoner, which included explicit threats of violence, including:

  • “I’m coming with a gun tonight.”

  • “Tell your mom I’m going to kill and rape her daughter.”

  • “Then I’m going to leave her in the f****** woods.”

The victim also told police she believed the threats were credible, citing Waggoner’s alleged associations with individuals who could access firearms, as well as statements indicating he had been using drugs and alcohol.

Later that day, officers located and interviewed Waggoner. After being advised of his rights, he reportedly acknowledged sending threatening messages and admitted to making statements about harming the victim.

He was subsequently arrested, and his cellphone was seized as part of the investigation. Waggoner was booked into the Dakota County Jail.

Charges and Bail Conditions

The felony threats of violence charge carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and fines ranging from $3,000 to $10,000. The gross misdemeanor harassment charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and fines of up to $3,000.

According to court records, a judge set conditional bail at $15,000 with conditions or $30,000 without conditions. Interim conditions are in place through April 2027. It appears he has posted his bail, as he is no longer being held in the Dakota County Jail.

As with all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
