FBI Declines to Share Evidence With BCA in Pretti Investigation
Published: February 16th, 2026
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has formally notified the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension that it will not provide access to any information or evidence it has collected in the Jan. 24 shooting death of Alex Pretti.
The FBI communicated its decision to the BCA on Feb. 13.
The BCA said it also reiterated requests for information, evidence and cooperation related to the Jan. 7 shooting death of Renee Good and the Jan. 14 shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis. It remains unclear whether there will be cooperation or information sharing in those two cases.
In a statement, the BCA called the lack of cooperation concerning and unprecedented but said it remains committed to conducting thorough, independent and transparent investigations, even if hindered by limited access to federal evidence.
The agency said it has informed the FBI and the Department of Justice that it remains willing to share information it has obtained and would welcome a joint investigation should the federal stance change. The BCA also said it will pursue all legal avenues to obtain relevant information and evidence.
Investigations into the three shootings are ongoing. As is standard practice, the BCA will present its findings without recommendation to the appropriate prosecutorial authorities for review.
Anyone with information about the shootings of Alex Pretti, Renee Good or Julio Sosa-Celis is urged to contact the BCA at 651-793-7000 or by email at bca.tips@state.mn.us.—
