TWIN CITIES - Six years ago today, on October 20th, 2020, a historic early-season snowstorm swept across the Twin Cities, bringing significant snowfall and setting a new daily snowfall record for the date.

The storm dumped 7.9 inches of snow at Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport, making it the second-largest single-day October snowfall in Twin Cities recorded history, behind the 8.2 inches recorded during the beginning of the Halloween Blizzard on October 31, 1991.

Several south metro communities received even higher totals, including 8.8 inches in Savage and 8.5 inches in Apple Valley.

The unusual October storm contributed to a record-breaking month, with the Twin Cities recording 9.3 inches of snow during October 2020, making it the snowiest October on record.
