LINO LAKES MN - A 44-year-old Hugo man is facing a felony false imprisonment charge after allegedly locking his girlfriend inside a storage unit overnight in Lino Lakes, leaving her unable to escape or call for help, according to a criminal complaint filed in Anoka County.
Cory Allen Wuollet, of Hugo, is charged with felony false imprisonment involving intentional restraint in connection with an incident on October 13, 2026.
According to the criminal complaint, Lino Lakes police responded to a report of a verbal domestic disturbance at a storage facility on Park Court. Upon arrival, officers encountered Wuollet and his girlfriend, who appeared to be living inside one of the storage units. Officers observed a bed, blankets, food and clothing inside.
The woman told investigators that she and Wuollet had argued the previous night but that the disagreement had not become physical.
According to the complaint, Wuollet allegedly left the storage unit around 1:30 a.m., taking the woman's cellphone before closing the garage-style door and securing it from the outside with two locks.
The woman reported being unable to escape and remained trapped inside until Wuollet returned around 8:30 a.m., approximately seven hours later.
The complaint states that the woman reported experiencing two possible medical episodes while confined but was unable to contact emergency services because her phone had been taken.
Investigators noted that the storage unit appeared to lack interior lighting and was unfinished. The overnight low temperature was approximately 47 degrees.
According to the complaint, Wuollet acknowledged to officers that his behavior changes when he uses methamphetamine and that he has difficulty getting along with the woman.
Officers also conducted a domestic violence lethality screening, which classified the situation as high risk.
Wuollet faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison if convicted of the felony charge.
The allegations contained in the criminal complaint have not been proven in court, and Wuollet is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
