Man Charged With First-Degree, Third-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct in St. Paul

SAINT PAUL MN - A 39-year-old man has been charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving alleged injury and coercion and third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving alleged coercion following an alleged sexual assault in St. Paul.
Dmitriy Karpitskiy was charged in Ramsey County District Court following allegations stemming from Sept. 24.
According to the criminal complaint, St. Paul police responded shortly before 10 a.m. after Ramsey County 911 received multiple calls concerning Karpitskiy and another person. One caller reported a physical altercation, while another reported that a person said they had been physically and sexually assaulted.
Officers responded to the area and spoke with those involved. Karpitskiy was subsequently taken into custody after officers learned he had an outstanding warrant, according to the complaint.
The other person later told investigators that Karpitskiy had sexually assaulted them and that a separate physical assault had also occurred, according to allegations in the complaint.
The person was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Police continued their investigation and obtained warrants to collect potential evidence related to the allegations.
During an interview with investigators, Karpitskiy denied the sexual assault allegation and maintained that any sexual activity had been consensual, according to the complaint.
The first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and/or a $40,000 fine. The third-degree charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years and/or a $30,000 fine.
The allegations contained in a criminal complaint are accusations and have not been proven in court. Karpitskiy is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
