Man fatally struck after exiting vehicle along Highway 169 in Shakopee

SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA: A 48-year-old Minneapolis man was killed early Friday morning after he exited a vehicle stopped along Highway 169 in Shakopee and was struck by another vehicle, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 1:59 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2026, on southbound U.S. Highway 169 near Scott County Road 21 (Canterbury Road).

According to the State Patrol's preliminary crash report, a 2025 Nissan Rogue was stopped on the right shoulder of southbound Highway 169 near County Road 21. The driver of the Nissan, identified as Abdulahi Mohamed Siad, 48, of Minneapolis, exited the vehicle. After getting out of the Nissan, Siad was struck by a southbound 2014 BMW X5, according to the State Patrol.

Siad suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. The State Patrol report lists no health care facility to which he was transported.

Three passengers in Nissan uninjured

Three passengers were inside the Nissan Rogue at the time of the incident, according to the crash report. All three were reported to not be injured in the crash. The passengers were identified as a 24-year-old from Prior Lake; a 21-year-old from Inver Grove Heights; and a 23-year-old from Prior Lake. The report indicates alcohol was not suspected in connection with any of the occupants of the Nissan.

The BMW was driven by an 18-year-old from Shakopee. The driver was also reported to not be injured, and alcohol was not suspected in connection with him, according to the State Patrol.

Neither vehicle's airbags deployed.

Road Conditions Dry at Time of Crash

The State Patrol reported that road conditions were dry when the crash occurred. The preliminary report does not indicate why the Nissan had stopped on the shoulder or provide additional details about the circumstances leading up to Siad being struck.

Shakopee police, Savage police and the Shakopee Fire Department assisted the Minnesota State Patrol at the scene.
