Michigan Man Charged After Allegedly Stealing Computer from Burnsville Best Buy; Court Documents Allege Nationwide Retail Theft Pattern
BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA: A Michigan man is facing a felony theft charge in Dakota County after prosecutors allege he stole a desktop computer from a Burnsville Best Buy earlier this year. Court documents also allege the suspect has been linked to dozens of similar thefts nationwide totaling more than $108,000 in reported losses, while publicly available court records show he is also facing separate felony theft prosecutions in Indiana.
According to a criminal complaint filed July 30 in Dakota County District Court, Kristoffer Michael Moore, 42, of Southfield, Michigan, has been charged with one count of felony theft involving property valued between $1,000 and $5,000.
Alleged Burnsville Theft
According to the statement of probable cause, Burnsville police were contacted in April 2026 regarding a shoplifting incident that allegedly occurred on March 25, 2026, at the Best Buy store on County Road 42 West in Burnsville. A loss prevention employee told officers surveillance video showed Moore entering the store, selecting a pre-built desktop computer valued at $1,369.99 before tax, and walking toward the front of the store.
Investigators allege Moore briefly spoke with an employee at the customer service desk before leaving through the front doors with the computer, bypassing all points of sale without paying for the merchandise. Officers reviewed the surveillance footage and compared it with Moore's Michigan driver's license photograph. According to the complaint, investigators identified Moore as the individual shown in the video.
Retailer Alleges Pattern of Theft Across the Country
The criminal complaint states that Best Buy identified Moore as a known nationwide shoplifting suspect. According to court documents, the retailer reported Moore had been positively identified in shoplifting incidents at 54 Best Buy stores across the United States, resulting in an alleged $108,192.10 in total losses.
The Dakota County case pertains only to the alleged Burnsville theft.
Indiana Court Records Show Additional Pending Felony Theft Cases
In addition to the Minnesota case, publicly available Indiana court records show Moore is currently facing two separate pending felony theft prosecutions in that state.

A case filed February 10, 2026, in Hamilton Superior Court 7 charges Moore with Level 6 felony theft, alleging property valued between $750 and $50,000.
A second case filed March 13, 2026, in Allen Superior Court 5 also charges Moore with Level 6 felony theft involving property allegedly valued between $750 and $50,000.
Both Indiana cases were listed as pending in the court records provided.
Outstanding Warrants Alleged in Multiple States
According to the Dakota County complaint, Burnsville officers attempted to contact Moore through several listed telephone numbers but were unsuccessful. Prosecutors allege Moore also has active warrants in Alabama, Indiana, and Wisconsin related to organized retail theft investigations.
When requesting bail conditions, prosecutors further noted Moore has a significant history of out-of-state criminal convictions for retail crime and is a registered sex offender in the State of Maryland. The current Dakota County case is not related to any sex offense allegations.
