Minnesota Attorney General Sues Federal Government for Access to Shooting Evidence

MINNEAPOLIS:Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced a new lawsuit against the federal government seeking access to evidence tied to the shootings of Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and Julio Sosa-Celis during Operation Metro Surge.

The lawsuit, filed alongside Hennepin County officials, aims to compel federal agencies to release investigative materials related to the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, as well as the shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis. State officials argue that federal authorities have refused to share key evidence needed for independent investigations.

According to the complaint, the federal government’s refusal to provide records and comply with evidence requests is unlawful and prevents Minnesota from fully investigating potential criminal conduct involving federal officers.

The shootings occurred during Operation Metro Surge, a large-scale federal immigration enforcement effort in Minnesota that has drawn widespread scrutiny and legal challenges.

Ellison said the lawsuit is about accountability, emphasizing that no one is above the law. State officials are asking the court to order federal agencies to turn over evidence and comply with legal requests.

The case marks a significant escalation in tensions between Minnesota authorities and federal agencies over transparency and oversight in the investigations.
