TWIN CITIES, MINNESOTA - The Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) is encouraging residents and public transit riders across its service area to share their experiences and opinions through its 2026 MVTA Survey, an initiative designed to help shape the future of public transportation in the southern Twin Cities metropolitan area.
The survey, which will run throughout October and November, will remain open through Friday, November 20, 2026, giving customers and community members a chance to provide feedback on current transit services and potential improvements. According to MVTA, the information gathered will help identify customer needs, set organizational priorities, guide future investments, and evaluate opportunities to expand transit routes.
The transit authority serves seven communities across Dakota and Scott counties and says customer feedback is essential to its ongoing efforts to improve the quality, accessibility, and effectiveness of public transportation.
Survey Designed to Guide Future Transit Decisions
MVTA officials say the 2026 survey will gather meaningful feedback to help the agency better understand customers' needs and expectations. Responses will inform several areas of future transit planning, including service strategies, operational priorities, investments, and potential route expansions.
By collecting feedback directly from those who use or interact with its transit system, MVTA hopes to identify areas that need improvement while ensuring future decisions reflect the transportation needs of the communities it serves.
“We’re eager to gather as much input as possible so we have information that will help best serve our customers,” said Richard Crawford, MVTA Public Information Manager.
The agency is encouraging broad participation to ensure that its planning process incorporates a range of customer perspectives and experiences.
How to Participate in the 2026 MVTA Survey
The survey is available online at mvta.com/survey and takes about 10 minutes to complete. To make participation more accessible, MVTA has made the survey available in multiple languages.
The transit authority also emphasized that participation is anonymous and that it will not share survey information with third-party organizations.
Throughout the survey period, MVTA staff will actively promote participation at transit stations, aboard bus routes, and at locations throughout the communities the agency serves. Customers who complete and submit a survey will also be entered into a random drawing for one of five MVTA prize packages.
For individuals who prefer a paper version or need help accessing the survey, they can request printed copies by contacting MVTA Customer Service at 952-882-7500.
Survey Results Will Inform Future Planning
Once the survey closes on November 20th, MVTA staff will begin reviewing and analyzing the responses collected. According to the transit authority, the evaluation process will include an in-house statistical analysis intended to identify trends, common concerns, and priorities expressed by respondents.
MVTA plans to develop a summary report outlining the survey's major findings, including recurring themes and participants' demographic representation. The report will also identify next steps for incorporating the findings into future service planning and improvements.
The agency says the information will help guide decisions on how to allocate resources, prioritize improvements, and evaluate opportunities to better meet riders' transportation needs. While MVTA has identified potential route expansions as one area that could be influenced by survey responses, the agency has not announced any specific new routes or service changes as part of the survey initiative.
Supporting Public Transportation Across Dakota and Scott Counties
MVTA provides public transportation services to seven communities in Dakota and Scott counties, connecting residents with employment opportunities, educational institutions, shopping destinations, and other essential services throughout the southern metropolitan area.
As communities continue to develop and transportation needs evolve, the transit authority says public input remains an important component of planning for future services.
The 2026 survey gives riders a chance to share their experiences directly with the agency and help shape decisions that could affect public transportation across the region in the coming years.
Residents and customers interested in participating are encouraged to complete the survey before the November 20th deadline.
