Wrong-Way Drunk Driver Kills Two in Randolph Crash

RANDOLPH, MN: Two people were killed and another person was airlifted to the hospital following a head-on crash caused by a wrong-way driver Saturday morning, September 6, 2025, on Highway 56 near Randolph.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 9:16 a.m. when a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by a 28-year-old, Seth Nechville, from Kenyon, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 56. The pickup collided head-on with a southbound 2019 GMC Terrain.
The two deceased in the 2019 GMC Terrain were identified as 68-year-old Peter Foxvong Olson (driver) and his wife, Patricia Ann Olson (passenger), both from Apple Valley, Minnesota. The Minnesota State Patrol reports that the driver of the 2016 Ram has non-life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Regions.
Emergency Response and Road Closures
Randolph-Hampton Fire Department, Northfield EMS, and an AirCare helicopter responded to the crash. Initial reports indicated one of the vehicles caught fire after impact. Additionally, the Dakota County Sheriff and Minnesota State Patrol also responded to the scene to investigate the cause and help with traffic control.
Cannon Falls Police and the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control coming from the south out of Goodhue County. At the same time, the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office closed Highway 56 (Randolph Boulevard) between 292nd Street East and 300th Street East. The road was closed for several hours as crash reconstruction crews investigated the cause of the crash and cleared the scene.

Alcohol Suspected - Criminal and Driving History
The Minnesota State Patrol said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, though full details are still under investigation. Court records reviewed by Limitless Media show Nechville has a history of alcohol-related driving offenses.
In 2019, he pleaded guilty to 3rd Degree Driving While Impaired (0.08 or more, with an aggravating factor) following an incident on December 29, 2018.
In 2023, he pleaded guilty to 3rd Degree Operating a Motor Vehicle With Alcohol Concentration of 0.08 or More, following an incident on January 30, 2022
His probation in that case ended on March 1, 2025, just six months before Saturday’s fatal crash.
Records also show that Nechville has received several petty misdemeanor citations for excessive speed dating back to 2017.
Driver Arrested
The Minnesota State Patrol and the Dakota County Sheriff's Office continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a decision on whether charges will be sought early this coming week. Records from the Dakota County Jail show that Seth John Nechville was ordered by Judge V Taylor to be detained and held at the jail under Minnesota’s 36-hour rule.
Jail records show he has two probable cause felony charges for Criminal Vehicular Homicide - Operate Vehicle with Negligence - Under the Influence of Alcohol. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. in Hastings, Minnesota.
