Suspect Dead, Officer Injured in Richfield Police Shooting Following Car Prowler Call

RICHFIELD MN: A suspect is dead and a Richfield police officer was injured following an early morning exchange of gunfire on April 29, 2026, according to the Richfield Police Department.
Police said the incident began at approximately 3:24 a.m., when a resident in the 7500 block of Morgan Avenue reported a car prowler.
Officers responded to the area and located a suspect, who fled on foot, prompting a pursuit. During the incident, the suspect brandished a firearm and gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and officers.
Both the suspect and an officer were struck by gunfire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand.
The area was secured and blocked off as investigators processed the scene.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation. No additional information has been released.
