Rosemount Police Investigating Death of 23-Year-Old in Rosemount

ROSEMOUNT, MN: The family of a 23-year-old University of Minnesota student is mourning his death and seeking answers about what happened after he reportedly left his Rosemount home last week and never returned.
According to information shared by his family through a GoFundMe fundraiser, Fiqremariam Kidus Dereje Zewde, known as Kidus, left his home on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, to play indoor soccer. His family said he never returned home and was later found dead in a wooded area approximately seven minutes from the family's residence.
Limitless Media News reached out to the Rosemount Police Department, which confirmed there is an active investigation involving a body found near the Meta Data Center Wednesday evening. At this time, police have not publicly identified the individual who was found or released information regarding the cause or manner of death. Rosemount Police tell us they do not suspect foul play or any criminal activity at this time.
Family Looking for Answers
Kidus' family said they are searching for answers about the circumstances surrounding his death and are asking for a thorough investigation.
"We are seeking answers," the family wrote in the fundraiser. "We are asking the police to fully investigate what happened to Kidus."
The family described Kidus as kind, humble, and deeply loved by those who knew him. According to his family, Kidus was a student at the University of Minnesota and had been studying for an exam scheduled for the following day. He also worked alongside his father, helped care for his younger siblings, and was always there for his friends. Kidus would have turned 24 on October 13, 2026.
"Our family is heartbroken," the family wrote. "As we prepare to lay Kidus to rest and continue searching for the truth, we are asking our community to support us and stand with our family during this incredibly painful time."
