Rosemount Police Chief Placed on Leave, Deputy Chief Steps In

ROSEMOUNT, MINNESOTA — The City of Rosemount announced on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, that Police Chief Mikael Dahlstrom has been placed on leave, effective immediately. In the interim, Deputy Chief Carson Thomas will assume leadership of the Rosemount Police Department.

In a brief statement, city officials emphasized that the department remains committed to maintaining a high level of public safety and community service during the transition.

“The Rosemount Police Department and City of Rosemount remain committed to providing a high level of public safety services to the community,” the notice read.

No additional details were provided regarding Chief Dahlstrom’s leave, and city officials said no further information is available at this time.

The Rosemount Police Department serves a rapidly growing city of more than 27,000 residents in Dakota County, with a focus on community engagement, crime prevention, and public safety partnerships. Dahlstrom was promoted to Chief of Police on June 4th, 2019.
