St. Paul Woman Charged After Allegedly Kicking In Apartment Door, Chasing Man With Knife

SAINT PAUL MN: A Saint Paul woman is facing multiple felony charges after a Ramsey County criminal complaint alleges she kicked in an apartment door, entered the residence armed with a knife, and chased a man while threatening to kill him.

Katrina Lakeshia Mabry, 36, has been charged in Ramsey County District Court with two counts of first-degree burglary and one count of threats of violence. According to the criminal complaint, the alleged incident happened May 4 at an apartment on the 1XXX block of Westminster Street in St. Paul.

According to the complaint, police were initially dispatched to the apartment earlier in the evening after reports of a verbal argument between Mabry and a male resident of the apartment. The complaint states the resident wanted Mabry removed from the apartment and agreed she could take their shared infant and stay elsewhere for the night.

Officers allegedly observed Mabry was heavily intoxicated and verbally aggressive toward both the resident and police during the initial response.

Later that night, at approximately 11:36 p.m., officers were dispatched back to the apartment after the resident reported Mabry had returned, kicked in the apartment door, and was armed with a knife.

According to the complaint, responding officers observed damage to the apartment door handle. A neighbor reportedly told police Mabry returned shortly after officers left the first time and kicked in the door.

The resident told police he became “extremely scared” and stayed quiet while Mabry allegedly continued kicking the door until it broke open. The complaint alleges Mabry then entered the apartment, grabbed a knife, and chased the resident around a kitchen island while holding the knife above her head with the blade facing toward him.

The complaint further alleges Mabry repeatedly threatened to kill the resident while chasing him with the knife. The resident reportedly fled the apartment. Officers later recovered a knife from the kitchen sink.

Police were initially unable to locate Mabry inside the building. According to the complaint, officers deployed a drone and located her hiding in bushes north of the apartment complex.

The complaint states officers ordered Mabry to come toward them and issued K-9 warnings. Mabry allegedly crawled farther into tall grass before eventually standing up and walking toward officers. Police reported she was uncooperative during the arrest and resisted being placed into a squad vehicle.

At the Ramsey County Jail, officers allegedly reported Mabry continued resisting by refusing to walk, planting her feet, thrashing her body, and repeatedly sitting down while being escorted into the facility. According to the complaint, officers eventually dragged her into a pre-booking cell after she refused to stand.

The charges against Mabry include first-degree burglary involving an alleged assault, first-degree burglary involving possession of a dangerous weapon, and threats of violence.

Under Minnesota law, each burglary charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and/or a $35,000 fine. The threats of violence charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.

Mabry is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
