Target Apologizes, Pulls Offensive Halloween Costume From Sale

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: Target has issued an apology after an offensive Halloween costume was included in its product assortment, saying the item has since been removed from sale.

In a statement, Target acknowledged the costume should never have been offered and apologized to those affected.

“We pulled an offensive Halloween costume that should never have been part of our assortment. It is no longer for sale,” Target said. “As a company, we got this wrong, and we are deeply sorry.”

Target said it recognizes the incident is especially hurtful to its Black guests, team members and partners.

The Minneapolis-based retailer said removing the costume is an important first step and that it is reviewing how the item became part of its assortment.

Target said it is also examining what changes need to be made to prevent a similar incident from happening again.
