Three Hospitalized Following Serious Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 13 in Eagan

Published: October 14, 2026

EAGAN, MN: Three people were transported to area hospitals Wednesday morning following a serious two-vehicle crash on Highway 13 near Blackhawk Road in Eagan. The collision prompted an extended closure of northbound Highway 13 as emergency crews assisted those involved and investigators worked to determine what led to the crash.

The crash occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. on northbound Highway 13, just north of Blackhawk Road. The collision's severity prompted a response from multiple emergency agencies, including police, firefighters, paramedics, and the Minnesota State Patrol. Emergency responders closed northbound Highway 13 at Blackhawk Road while they worked at the scene. The roadway reopened shortly after 11:15 a.m., approximately one hour and 45 minutes after the crash was initially reported.

While the Minnesota State Patrol's official crash report remains pending, Limitless Media News spoke directly with witnesses at the scene, including the driver of one of the vehicles involved, to gather additional information about the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Driver Describes Being Struck While Stopped at Intersection

One of the vehicles involved was a Honda CR-V that had reportedly been stopped at the intersection of northbound Highway 13 and Blackhawk Road. The driver of the Honda spoke with Limitless Media News at the scene and described having little recollection of the collision itself.

According to the driver, he remembered traveling northbound on Highway 13 before another vehicle suddenly struck him. The next thing he recalled was finding himself in the right-turn lane for southbound Highway 13, on the opposite side of the roadway. The driver said he felt alright after the crash, but would likely be very sore the next day. However, Limitless Media News confirmed that he was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further medical evaluation.

The extent of the damage to the Honda and the exact sequence of events that led the vehicle into the southbound turn lane have not yet been officially established.

Witnesses Report Erratic Driving Before Collision

Additional witnesses who stopped at the scene told Limitless Media News about the second vehicle's driving behavior shortly before the crash. According to those witnesses, the vehicle had passed other motorists using the right shoulder of the roadway while traveling at what they described as a very high rate of speed.

Witnesses also alleged that the vehicle had been driving erratically in the moments leading up to the collision. These accounts are preliminary and have not yet been independently confirmed through the Minnesota State Patrol's official investigation.

When Limitless Media News asked officials at the scene about the estimated speed of the vehicle that struck the Honda CR-V, officials indicated that it was likely traveling at speeds approaching normal highway speeds based on where the victim vehicle ended up and where the second vehicle stopped. However, officials have not released a specific speed estimate, and investigators have not yet determined whether speed contributed to the collision.

Based on observations at the scene, the second vehicle appeared to continue onto the right shoulder and into a grassy area after the impact, where it may have rolled over. One witness said the vehicle must have gone airborne, while another said all they remember was a large cloud of smoke not long after the vehicle passed him. Authorities have not yet officially confirmed a rollover, and investigators are still determining the exact movements of both vehicles.

Three People Transported to Hospitals

Limitless Media News confirmed that at least three people were transported from the crash scene to local hospitals. In addition to the Honda CR-V driver, two separate ambulances transported the second vehicle's driver and passenger. While at the scene, Limitless Media News observed all three ambulances leaving with emergency lights and sirens activated, indicating emergency transport.

Despite the serious appearance of the collision and the emergency response, officials at the scene provided preliminary information indicating that all three individuals had sustained injuries initially believed to be minor and non-life-threatening. These injury assessments are preliminary. Limitless Media News is awaiting official confirmation from the Minnesota State Patrol regarding the conditions of those involved.

The use of emergency lights and sirens during transport does not, by itself, establish the severity of a patient's injuries.

Investigators Reviewing Multiple Sources of Video Evidence

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the events leading up to the initial impact. According to information provided to Limitless Media News at the scene, investigators have access to several sources of evidence that may help establish what occurred.

Those sources reportedly include witness statements, accounts from the individuals involved in the collision, Minnesota Department of Transportation traffic camera footage, and video recorded by a Tesla that captured the crash. Multiple camera angles, combined with statements from those who witnessed or experienced the collision, may help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events and determine whether any contributing factors were involved.

Authorities have not yet publicly released their findings or confirmed whether excessive speed, distracted driving, impairment, or another factor contributed to the crash. No citations or criminal charges have been announced in connection with the incident.

Multiple Agencies Responded

The serious collision prompted a coordinated response involving several local and state agencies. Responding agencies included the Eagan Police Department, Eagan Fire Department, M Health Fairview emergency medical personnel, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Department of Transportation, and MnDOT's Freeway Incident Response Safety Team (FIRST).

Emergency crews assisted the injured, secured the crash scene, and managed traffic while investigators examined the roadway and vehicles involved. The northbound lanes of Highway 13 remained closed at Blackhawk Road during the response, with traffic restrictions continuing until the roadway reopened shortly after 11:15 a.m.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Minnesota State Patrol had not yet released its official crash report. Several important details remain unconfirmed, including the precise sequence of the collision, the vehicles' estimated speeds, whether the second vehicle rolled over, and the final medical conditions of those transported.

Although witness accounts provide additional insight into the moments leading up to the crash, those statements should not be considered final investigative findings. Limitless Media News will continue following the investigation and provide updates as additional information becomes available from the Minnesota State Patrol and other responding agencies.
