SAINT PAUL: Two men were killed early Saturday morning, November 7, after a vehicle allegedly fleeing a Ramsey County sheriff’s deputy at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour lost control and crashed into a tree in St. Paul.

According to a news release issued Saturday, a Ramsey County deputy attempted to stop an Acura RDX shortly after midnight near the intersection of Rose Avenue East and Burr Street North.

The driver fled, leading the deputy on a pursuit that lasted approximately 50 seconds and covered about one mile.

Authorities said the deputy remained approximately three blocks behind the fleeing vehicle as it reached speeds exceeding 100 mph.

As the Acura approached Wheelock Parkway, it struck a dip in the road, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a tree near the intersection of Payne Avenue and Nebraska Avenue.

The crash caused catastrophic damage to the Acura, and both occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

One occupant was pronounced dead at the scene. The second occupant was transported to Regions Hospital, where he later died.

According to authorities, the person believed to have been driving the Acura was a 27-year-old man who had several outstanding felony warrants, including warrants related to drug possession, drug trafficking and fleeing police.

The passenger was identified as a 29-year-old man.

Authorities have not released the identities of either occupant. Their names are expected to be made public following positive identification by the medical examiner and notification of their next of kin.
