Burnsville Parkway West to Close May 17 for Gas Line Replacement Project

BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA – Drivers in Burnsville should prepare for a new road closure starting Saturday, May 17, as CenterPoint Energy begins a major natural gas infrastructure upgrade along Burnsville Parkway West. The closure will affect the stretch of road between County Road 42 and Corporate Center Drive and is expected to last through approximately July 18.

The gas line replacement project is part of CenterPoint Energy’s broader initiative to enhance safety and reliability in Burnsville’s natural gas system. The work includes relocating a section of the natural gas main and a regulator station to CenterPoint’s easement. While the stretch being closed is relatively short, city officials advise that detours will be posted to assist with traffic flow.

Detours will direct traffic along Ewing Avenue, Southcross Drive, Judicial Road, and Corporate Center Drive.

Access to local businesses, including The Modern Sportsman, will remain open throughout construction.

What Drivers Can Expect

  • Complete closure of Burnsville Parkway West from the left turn lane of County Road 42 to Corporate Center Drive.

  • Traffic detours marked along nearby roads.

  • Construction noise, dust, and possible vibrations due to steel main installation.

  • Limited parking, sidewalk closures, and lane shifts in affected areas.

  • No interruptions to natural gas service are expected for residents or businesses.

Crews will install a large-diameter steel gas main that runs primarily through CenterPoint Energy easements, with some sections affecting road right-of-way. The new infrastructure will be protected with durable coatings designed to extend the lifespan of the gas system.

CenterPoint Energy is coordinating its work with the City of Burnsville and emphasizes its commitment to timely communication and safe construction practices. Authorized contractors working on the project will carry official CenterPoint Energy identification, and residents are reminded not to allow anyone into their homes without verifying credentials.

As with all utility work, temporary restoration measures will occur during construction. Final restoration, including landscaping, will occur several weeks after completing the project.
