EDINA MN - A 69-year-old woman is facing three criminal charges after allegedly slapping a 77-year-old vulnerable adult while accompanying the individual to a medical appointment in Edina, according to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court.
Georgianne Mary Anderson has been charged with two gross misdemeanors, assault against a vulnerable adult and disorderly conduct by a caregiver against a vulnerable adult, along with one misdemeanor count of fifth-degree domestic assault.
According to the criminal complaint, Edina police responded to a medical facility on October 6, 2026, at approximately 2:27 p.m., following a report that a caregiver had allegedly struck a vulnerable adult.
Medical staff told investigators that the victim had been preparing for a medical procedure when a disagreement occurred between the victim and Anderson.
According to the complaint, staff heard the conversation escalate while the two were behind a privacy curtain, followed by what sounded like a slap.
A nurse immediately opened the curtain and observed the victim holding a hand near their cheek. The victim reportedly complained of facial pain.
Medical staff separated the individuals and filed a vulnerable adult maltreatment report.
Responding officers observed a red mark on the victim's upper right cheek. The victim indicated that the area hurt but was unable to explain what had happened, according to the complaint.
During an interview with police, Anderson allegedly admitted to striking the victim after becoming frustrated during the appointment.
According to the complaint, Anderson told investigators that she had lost her temper and struck the victim in an attempt to stop the individual from talking. She reportedly demonstrated the motion she used.
Police also contacted an individual responsible for overseeing the victim's affairs, who reported that similar allegations involving Anderson had been raised previously. The complaint states that the victim had recanted those earlier allegations. It does not establish whether those allegations were substantiated.
Anderson faces up to 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine on each gross misdemeanor charge. The misdemeanor domestic assault charge carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The allegations outlined in the criminal complaint have not been proven in court, and Anderson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
