RAMSEY COUNTY: A 19-year-old driver in an alleged stolen vehicle caused a serious crash in Minneapolis after fleeing law enforcement at high speeds, according to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the incident unfolded after a stolen Hyundai was first spotted in Ramsey County by a sergeant. The driver, identified as a 19-year-old, then allegedly sped through south Minneapolis streets, reaching speeds exceeding 80 miles per hour.
According to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle ran a stop sign and struck a Minnesota State Patrol trooper’s squad car in a T-bone collision.
The trooper sustained injuries but is expected to survive. Authorities said both the 19-year-old driver and a 17-year-old passenger in the stolen vehicle were also seriously injured in the crash.
Officials described the incident as another example of reckless driving involving repeat offenders operating stolen vehicles in the metro area. The sheriff’s office indicated that the driver has a prior history of similar behavior.
The incident was captured in part on the “Live On Patrol” livestream, which many viewers followed in real time.
