Minneapolis Man Charged with Felony Ammunition Violation Following Arrest on Active Warrant in Eagan

EAGAN, MINNESOTA - A Minneapolis man is facing a felony charge in Dakota County after authorities say he was found in possession of ammunition despite a prior conviction for a violent offense.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Dakota County District Court, 35-year-old Kyree Jamil Cooper, otherwise known as Khairi Jamil Abdullah, has been charged with one count of Ammunition Violation (Crime of Violence Conviction), a felony under Minnesota law.

Arrest and Discovery of Ammunition

The complaint states that on April 20, 2026, at approximately 11:46 a.m., officers with the Eagan Police Department responded to a residence in Eagan after learning that Cooper was present and had an active warrant for his arrest.

Officers took Cooper into custody without incident. During a search conducted at the time of arrest, authorities reported locating a live .22 caliber round of ammunition in Cooper’s left pants pocket.

After being transported to the Dakota County Jail, Cooper allegedly informed officers that he had an additional round of ammunition in his possession. He then removed a second live .22 caliber round from his right pants pocket and handed it over to authorities, according to the complaint.

Investigators say a review of Cooper’s criminal history revealed a prior felony conviction for threats of violence in 2018 in Hennepin County. Under Minnesota law, individuals convicted of certain violent crimes are prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Prosecutors requested that Cooper’s bail be set at $100,000 without conditions or $50,000 with conditions. The judge ultimately set his bail at $50,000 without conditions and $25,000 with conditions. As of the writing of this article, he has not posted bail and remains in custody at the Dakota County Jail.

Prior Criminal History

Court records indicate Cooper has multiple prior convictions, including:

  • Felony threats of violence (2018)

  • Gross misdemeanor DWI (2025)

  • Misdemeanor DWI (2021)

  • Misdemeanor domestic-related offense and DWI (2011)

As with all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
