5th Annual Cory Slifko Memorial Softball Tournament to Honor Fallen Officer, Raise Awareness for First Responder PTSD
FARMINGTON, MINNESOTA – More than 230 officers representing 35 law enforcement agencies across Minnesota will take the field this weekend for the 5th Annual Cory Slifko Memorial Softball Tournament. The event honors the late South St. Paul Police Sergeant Cory Slifko, who lost his battle with PTSD in 2019, while raising awareness and funding for first responder mental health support.
Since its inception, the tournament has raised more than $200,000 to benefit organizations dedicated to addressing PTSD among first responders. Proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to Heroes Helping Heroes and Wellness that Fits, two organizations that provide critical support services to public safety professionals.

Honoring Sgt. Slifko’s Legacy
Sergeant Cory Slifko served with the South St. Paul Police Department and was remembered by colleagues for his dedication to public safety and his advocacy for mental health awareness among first responders. The tournament was established in his honor to carry forward that mission and spark conversations about the challenges law enforcement officers face.
“This event not only honors Cory’s memory but also brings officers and community members together to support one another,” said South St. Paul Police Chief Brian Wicke. “It shines a light on the importance of mental health resources for those who serve.”
Dakota County Sheriff Joe Leko added, “The ongoing success of this tournament is a testament to Cory’s impact and to the need for continued awareness around PTSD in the first responder community.”
Community Involvement
Alongside competitive softball games, the day is designed as a community event where families and residents can connect with local officers in a positive, supportive environment. Organizers hope the tournament will not only provide fundraising support but also inspire conversations that help reduce stigma around PTSD and mental health in public safety.
As the first pitch drew near, organizers shared their gratitude on the tournament’s Facebook page:
“We’ve had lots of great donors for the event. We couldn’t put on an event like this without their support so please support them.”
