Published: July 7, 2026

APPLE VALLEY, MN: A 62-year-old bicyclist suffered suspected serious injuries Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle while riding through a red light at the intersection of County Road 42 and Galaxie Avenue, according to an Apple Valley Police Department crash report.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:09 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the intersection of 150th Street West (County Road 42) and Galaxie Avenue. Police reported that the collision involved a bicycle and a single passenger vehicle. According to the crash investigation, a 2011 Dodge Challenger was traveling westbound on County Road 42 with a green traffic signal when a bicyclist traveling northbound on Galaxie Avenue entered the intersection against a red light. The vehicle then struck the bicyclist.

Investigators noted that multiple witnesses told officers the traffic signal was red for the bicyclist when he entered the intersection, with the crash report citing the bicyclist failed to obey a traffic control signal, while police found no clear contributing action by the driver of the car. The report does not say whether the bicyclist received a ticket for failure to obey a traffic-controlled signal. The bicyclist, an Apple Valley man, sustained suspected serious injuries in the crash. He was wearing a DOT-compliant bicycle helmet at the time of the collision and was transported by Allina EMS to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for treatment.

The 29-year-old Apple Valley driver of the Dodge Challenger was not injured. A passenger in the vehicle also was uninjured. Police reported that the driver showed no apparent signs of impairment from drugs or alcohol. The Dodge Challenger sustained minor damage to its front-right portion and was driven away from the scene. Officers documented the crash with photographs, which were later uploaded as part of the investigation.

Weather conditions at the time of the crash were reported as clear, with daylight, dry pavement, and no roadway conditions believed to have contributed to the collision. The intersection's traffic signals were reported to be operating normally.

The Apple Valley Police Department investigated the incident, with Allina Health Medics and Apple Valley Fire responding to assist at the scene.
