DARTS Expands “Breathing Space” Program to Grace Lutheran Church in Apple Valley

The program now offers memory-care respite at three convenient locations across Dakota County!

APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA - Local caregivers supporting loved ones with early- to mid-stage memory loss now have an expanded opportunity for rest and support, as DARTS’ Breathing Space program grows to include a new location at Grace Lutheran Church in Apple Valley, which began on September 8, 2025.

This addition marks the third site for DARTS’ group respite program, joining existing locations in West St. Paul and Eagan. Each offers caregivers a reliable, structured break while providing their loved ones with four hours of engaging, supervised activities that promote social connection and brain health.

What is the DARTS Breathing Space Program?

The Breathing Space program is part of DARTS’ group respite services — designed specifically for those experiencing early- to mid-stage memory loss. Each session provides companionship, social engagement, and supervision during four hours of brain-stimulating activities such as conversation, crafts, games, music, and light exercise.

A trained DARTS staff member leads the program with the support of a dedicated team of volunteers who help foster meaningful connections and ensure a safe, supportive environment.

While care receivers participate, caregivers receive up to four hours of respite, a valuable opportunity to rest, complete errands, or simply take time for themselves.

Participation in the Breathing Space program is completely free, but pre-registration is required. Caregivers can call DARTS at 651-455-1560 to register or learn more.
