UPDATED: One Dead, One Critically Injured in Head-On Crash on Cedar Avenue in Lakeville

LAKEVILLE, MINNESOTA—One person has died and another remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle crash late Saturday morning in Lakeville.

According to the Lakeville Police Department, officers were dispatched at 11:42 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, to a crash on Cedar Avenue (Dakota County Road 23), just south of the intersection of 185th Street West. Upon arrival, officers and firefighters found two heavily damaged sedans and immediately began providing medical care to the injured drivers. Both vehicles caught fire following the collision.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2011 Jaguar XJ, driven by an 85-year-old Lakeville man, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Cedar Avenue when it collided head-on with a 2022 Tesla Model 3 driven by a 44-year-old Farmington woman. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

Emergency personnel from Lakeville Fire, Farmington Fire, and Allina EMS worked to extricate the drivers, who were then transported by ground ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Authorities later confirmed that the driver of the Jaguar XJ did not survive. His name will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

There were no indicators or evidence of impairment observed at the scene, police said. The Minnesota State Patrol assisted with crash reconstruction.

Cedar Avenue was closed in both directions for several hours as crews worked to extinguish vehicle fires, assist the injured, and document the scene.

The Lakeville Police Department expressed appreciation for assistance from the Farmington Police Department, Lakeville Fire Department, Farmington Fire Department, Allina EMS, and the Minnesota State Patrol.

Further updates on the condition of the Farmington driver will be released as additional information becomes available.
