Second-Alarm Structure Fire Displaces Family in Apple Valley; No Injuries Reported
Published: March 19, 2026
APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA - Emergency crews responded to a structure fire Thursday afternoon that escalated quickly into a second-alarm incident, ultimately leaving a home heavily damaged and a family displaced.
Apple Valley Fire, Apple Valley Police, and Allina Health EMS were dispatched to a residence in the 13001 block of Pennock Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on March 19, 2026, following reports of a residential fire. Upon arrival, first responders encountered active fire conditions inside the structure, prompting commanders to upgrade the response to a second-alarm at approximately 1:33 p.m. to bring in additional personnel and resources.
Fire crews faced early challenges establishing a reliable water supply, as the residential complex reportedly had limited nearby hydrants, and it was initially believed the closest hydrant was buried under several feet of snow. Emergency personnel eventually connected to a fire hydrant that was located an estimated 500 to 600 feet away, requiring firefighters to lay extended hose lines to access water.
Despite these obstacles, crews worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.
While the fire was ultimately brought under control, the home sustained significant damage, and the American Red Cross was requested to assist the residents, who were displaced by the fire. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported among residents or responding personnel.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released at this time. Rosemount Fire was called in as mutual aid for standby to help cover the City of Apple Valley for any additional calls.
