Apple Valley to Host Free Furniture & Small Appliance Swap to Keep Usable Items Out of Landfills
Published: July 13th, 2026
DAKOTA COUNTY/APPLE VALLEY: Residents looking to declutter their homes or pick up free household items will have the opportunity later this month as the City of Apple Valley and Dakota Valley Recycling (DVR) host their 3rd Annual Furniture & Small Appliances Swap.
The two-day community event is designed to reduce waste by giving gently used household items a second life instead of sending them to the landfill. Organizers say the event also helps residents save money by allowing people to take home usable furniture and small appliances at no cost.
The swap will take place at the Apple Valley Sports Arena, located at 14452 Hayes Road.
Event Schedule
Donation Intake Day
Friday, July 24, 2026
3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Residents do not need to donate items in order to participate in the free swap. Staff and volunteers will also be available both days to assist with moving heavier furniture and appliances between vehicles and the event site.
Accepted Items
Organizers will accept a variety of gently used household items, including:
Furniture
Small appliances and electronics
Rugs
Mirrors
Artwork and pictures
Yard and garden items
All donated items must meet quality standards established by Bridging. Items must be new or gently used, clean, fully functional, free of rips, stains, strong odors and excessive pet hair, and in good working condition.
Event staff will inspect all donations upon arrival and reserve the right to refuse items that do not meet the required standards.
After the event concludes, any remaining usable items will be donated to Bridging rather than discarded.
