Large Oak Tree Crashes Into Apple Valley Home During Overnight Severe Storms

Published: June 10, 2026 | Last Updated: June 10, 2026 at 10:50 AM.

APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA - A line of strong to severe thunderstorms moved through the Twin Cities metro area during the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 10, 2026, bringing strong winds and pea-sized hail that caused damage across portions of the region, including significant damage to a home in Apple Valley.

Just before 3 a.m., a line of storms swept across the Twin Cities and into Dakota County. Around 2:30 a.m., the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities issued a Special Weather Statement for portions of the metro area, including Apple Valley, warning residents of wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-sized hail as the storms approached.

By approximately 3 a.m., meteorologists with the National Weather Service posted a weather update on social media as the line of storms entered the Apple Valley area. They stated that storms were moving northeast and producing wind gusts of 40-50 mph.

Shortly thereafter, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Apple Valley Fire Department crews were dispatched to the 13000 block of Glenhaven Avenue following reports of a collapsed structure. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a large oak tree had fallen onto a home. Emergency responders secured the scene while assessing the extent of the damage. By 3:30 AM, Apple Valley emergency personnel canceled any units not on scene.

Limitless Media News arrived on the scene around 8:20 AM Wednesday morning, and we saw tree removal crews with Minnesota Tree Experts working to remove the massive tree. A worker with the tree removal company told Limitless Media News that nearly the entire canopy of the mature oak tree had broken away during the storm and crashed through the roof of the residence. It appeared it might also have extended into the second floor of the home.

The full extent of the structural damage has not yet been released. We do know that there were people in the home when the tree fell on the home, and they were able to evacuate when Apple Valley Fire crews arrived on the scene earlier this morning, but we don’t know if there were any injuries at this time. We will be reaching out to Apple Valley officials for more information.

The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by overnight severe weather, particularly strong wind gusts that can bring down large trees and cause significant property damage. Additional storm-related damage may be reported throughout Dakota County and the Twin Cities metro as communities continue assessing impacts from the overnight storms.
