Police Execute Search Warrant in Apple Valley in Connection with a Fatal Shooting in Minneapolis
APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA—A multi-agency law enforcement operation unfolded in an Apple Valley neighborhood Tuesday morning as authorities executed a search warrant connected to a fatal shooting in Minneapolis over the weekend.
The execution of the search warrant wrapped up around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, officers from the Minneapolis Police Department, assisted by the Apple Valley, Lakeville, and Farmington Police Departments, Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, and members of the SWAT team, carried out the warrant at a residence near 130th Street West and Garret Lane. No arrests were made during the operation.
According to the Minneapolis Police Department, the search was related to an active homicide investigation under case number 25-201544. The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office formally served the search warrant at the Apple Valley residence.
The investigation stems from a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Around 3:09 a.m. on July 20, 2025, Fourth Precinct officers responded to reports of gunfire near Mississippi Drive North and Lyndale Avenue North. There, officers discovered a 19-year-old man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Despite emergency life-saving efforts, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect fled before police arrived.
“Forensic scientists responded to process the scene, and our investigators are working diligently to gather information and learn what happened,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara. “Anyone who has information should reach out and provide that information. We are working to do everything we can to find justice for this victim and his family.”
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim to be 19-year-old Darnell Hawkins Mapp of Saint Paul, Minnesota. The cause of his death was ruled a homicide from multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities say the case remains active and ongoing. They have not yet released the name of the suspect they are looking for.
