Eagan Police Investigating Late-Night Arson After Firework Explosion Destroys Trash Can

EAGAN, MINNESOTA— Eagan Police are investigating a dangerous act of arson that occurred early Friday morning in the Country Hollow neighborhood, after someone detonated a mortar-style firework inside a residential trash can.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:49 a.m. on July 18, 2025, outside a home located on the 4100 block of Countryview Drive. According to the Eagan Police Department, a masked individual wearing a hooded sweatshirt was seen riding a bicycle up to the property, dropping a large firework into the trash can, and then quickly riding away. The explosion destroyed the can with the homeowner reporting some damage to their driveway. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

The Eagan Fire Department assisted in the initial response. Authorities have confirmed that this is being investigated as a criminal arson case.

The victim's home security camera captured the incident, showing that before igniting the firework, the suspect reportedly made an obscene gesture toward the camera, indicating they were aware they were being recorded. The homeowner reports they were jolted awake by the explosion, and says they are shaken and disturbed by the deliberate nature of the act.

“If you live in the area and have a Ring camera or any other home surveillance footage, please review recordings from around 12:30 to 1:00 a.m. on July 18,” they urged in a neighborhood alert. “Look for anyone biking through the neighborhood or any suspicious activity.”

The suspect is reported to be wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, and white tennis shoes.

Anyone with information or relevant footage is encouraged to contact the Eagan Police Department at (651) 675-5700. The Eagan Police report that this remains an active investigation.
