FARMINGTON, MINNESOTA – Paloma Flores-Cortes, a bright and ambitious young woman from Farmington, has been selected to represent her community in the 2024 Minneapolis Aquatennial Ambassador Candidate Program, held July 22–28 in Minneapolis.
Hosted by the Minneapolis Aquatennial Ambassador Organization (AAO), this annual program brings together 44 exceptional candidates from across Minnesota and beyond. Participants will spend the week engaging in professional development, leadership training, and community-building experiences, culminating in the highly anticipated Coronation Ceremony on Saturday, July 27, at the University of Minnesota's Ted Mann Concert Hall.
Throughout the week, candidates will visit Minneapolis landmarks, including The Woman’s Club of Minneapolis, the Stone Arch Bridge, and the Minneapolis City Center. Paloma and her fellow candidates will also participate in public events, including the "Meet the Candidates" showcase on Wednesday, July 24, from 9:30–11:30 AM at the Minneapolis City Center Rotunda, and the Aquatennial Torchlight Parade that evening at 7:30 PM on Nicollet Mall.
Paloma, a standout student with over 40 college credits already earned during high school, plans to pursue a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. She aspires to work in pediatrics or dermatology and is active in community programs such as 4-H Youth Teaching Youth, FCCLA, and DARTS. In her free time, she enjoys working out, reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
When asked about her goals for the Aquatennial program, Paloma shared, "I am most looking forward to creating new and lasting friendships and also learning more professional skills!"
As a Farmington Ambassador, she says her favorite experience has been discovering the unique traditions and festivals of other Minnesota communities.
The AAO will crown one Queen of the Lakes and two Princesses at the conclusion of the program. These individuals will go on to represent the Minneapolis Aquatennial and the AAO across the state and nation throughout the year.
Supporters are encouraged to send messages of encouragement to Paloma at the Hilton Garden Inn – University Area (511 Huron Blvd, Minneapolis, MN 55414), where she will be staying during the program. Local florist Jandrich Floral is offering a 15% discount on orders sent to AAO candidates during the week.
