Lakeville Woman Charged with Felony Theft for Alleged Misuse of Booster Club Funds

Published: November 5, 2025

LAKEVILLE, MINNESOTA—A 46-year-old Lakeville woman has been charged with two felony counts of theft by temporary control after investigators say she misused tens of thousands of dollars in funds from two local gymnastics booster clubs she managed for several years.

According to Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena, Holly Nichole Flood, 46, has been charged with two counts of Theft by Temporary Control (Aggregating over $5,000) following a detailed Lakeville Police Department investigation into missing funds from two booster organizations.

Investigation Begins After Missing Funds Reported

On July 18, 2024, Lakeville police received a report that money was missing from two booster clubs in the community. The reporting party told officers that Flood, who had recently stepped down as treasurer from both organizations, was suspected of using club funds for personal use. Flood served as treasurer of one booster club from April 2019 through March 2024, and the second from February 2019 through June 2024. Both positions were volunteer roles with no compensation.

When club members began reviewing financial statements, they discovered numerous checks made out to Flood, ATM withdrawals at casinos, and payments for personal expenses, including insurance and utility bills. When asked to provide full account records, Flood reportedly refused to cooperate, prompting police involvement.

Flood Admits to Taking Funds, Gambling Losses Discovered

During interviews with investigators, Flood initially claimed that she had used her own funds to purchase items for the clubs and later reimbursed herself. However, she eventually admitted she had taken money due to personal financial struggles, telling officers she had “tried to pay it back” but that the situation “spiraled.”

Flood also admitted she had used club funds to gamble in an attempt to recoup the money she took. Casino records obtained by police revealed she lost roughly $41,000 between 2022 and 2023.

According to court documents, Flood also has a prior felony conviction for forgery from 2009.

Financial Records Reveal Over $80,000 in Misused Funds

After executing search warrants, officers analyzed both clubs’ financial records and uncovered a pattern of misuse spanning several years. According to the criminal complaint:

  • Between March 26, 2021, and March 13, 2024, Flood allegedly used $50,091.21 in funds from the first club for personal expenses.

  • Between August 9, 2022, and June 10, 2024, she allegedly used $32,036.02 from the second club for similar personal use.

  • Flood made partial repayments totaling $30,262.34 to one of the clubs, including a $27,636.34 cashier’s check after resigning as treasurer.

Records also showed several online transactions to people associated with Flood, as well as numerous casino ATM withdrawals. At times, one club’s account balance dropped below zero, with a negative monthly ledger reported in late 2023 and early 2024.

Charges and Potential Penalties

Flood faces two felony counts under Minnesota Statute 609.52.2(a)(5)(i), each carrying a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine between $6,000 and $20,000.

She is scheduled to make her first court appearance on December 9, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.

Prosecutor’s Statement

In announcing the charges, County Attorney Kathy Keena thanked the Lakeville Police Department for what she described as a “thorough and detailed investigation,” which included the review of extensive financial records and gambling reports.

This information comes from a probable cause statement and court documents filed in Dakota County District Court. These are merely allegations, not proof of guilt. Flood is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
