Woman Charged After Allegedly Spitting on Officer, Pulling Officer’s Hair at U.S. Bank Stadium

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: A 19-year-old woman is facing two felony charges after she allegedly spit in the face of a law enforcement officer and pulled out some of another officer’s hair during an incident at U.S. Bank Stadium, according to a Hennepin County criminal complaint.
Brandayah Marie Cox has been charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault of a peace officer and one misdemeanor count of fifth-degree assault.
According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to a gate at U.S. Bank Stadium near Chicago Avenue at approximately 12:19 p.m. on Aug. 22.
Stadium security told officers that Cox had allegedly pushed through a weapons screening line after being told her bag was too large to bring inside the stadium. Cox allegedly kicked a security guard in the process while attempting to enter the stadium. The security guard later told officers he did not wish to pursue charges, according to the probable cause statement.
When officers made contact with Cox, she allegedly became confrontational and attempted to push through people toward the stadium doors.
The complaint alleges that when an officer attempted to stop her, Cox spit at the officer’s face, making contact. She then allegedly attempted to head-butt and kicked the officer. Cox’s tooth also allegedly made contact with the officer’s finger, causing a minor cut.
A second officer attempted to gain control of Cox. During the encounter, Cox allegedly threatened to “uppercut” the officer and pulled out some of the officer’s hair. According to the complaint, the officer suffered a minor cut, abrasions and bruising during the altercation.
Cox was taken into custody. Prosecutors requested heightened bail based on the allegations involving three separate victims.
Each felony fourth-degree assault charge carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison and/or a $6,000 fine. The fifth-degree assault charge is a misdemeanor carrying a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
The allegations contained in the criminal complaint are accusations. Cox is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
