Bloomington House Cleaner Charged With Felony Theft After Allegedly Pawning Nearly $26,000 in Stolen Property

BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA: A Bloomington man who worked as a house cleaner is facing two felony theft charges in Dakota County after authorities allege he stole property from clients’ homes and later sold the items to pawn shops throughout the south metro.
Hector Daniel Hernandez Sosa, 38, of Bloomington, has been charged in Dakota County District Court with two counts of felony theft by aggregating property valued at more than $5,000. Each count carries a maximum potential sentence of 10 years in prison and/or a fine of between $6,000 and $20,000, according to the criminal complaint.
The charges cover two separate periods between November 2025 and July 2026. Prosecutors allege Hernandez Sosa pawned property for a combined total of approximately $25,873 during those periods. The case originated with an investigation outside of Dakota County.
Investigation Leads Burnsville Police to Pawn Transactions
According to the criminal complaint, the Burnsville Police Department was alerted in July 2026 to the Scott County Sheriff's Office's investigation into the theft of jewelry. During the Scott County investigation, Hernandez Sosa allegedly admitted to stealing a number of items from people's homes while working as a house cleaner and then pawning the stolen property. We’re working to determine whether there is an additional, separate case in Scott County tied to that Scott County investigation.
Law enforcement subsequently used Leads Online, a system for tracking transactions involving pawn shops and other businesses, to review Hernandez Sosa's sales. Investigators found numerous transactions at pawn shops between November 2025 and July 2026, according to the complaint. Prosecutors divided those transactions into two periods, resulting in the two felony counts now filed against Hernandez Sosa.
More Than $13,500 Pawned During First Period
Count one covers alleged thefts between Nov. 13, 2025, and April 25, 2026. Court documents list numerous transactions during that period at pawn and precious-metal businesses in Burnsville, Bloomington and Richfield.
The transactions listed in the complaint include:
$322 at Pawn America in Bloomington on Nov. 13, 2025;
$680 at Pawn America in Bloomington on Nov. 18;
$600 at Pawn Works in Burnsville on Nov. 19;
$326 at Great Lakes Coins & Collectibles in Burnsville on Nov. 25;
$1,400 at Max It Pawn in Bloomington;
$1,902 at Pawn America in Bloomington;
$1,270 at Pawn Works in Burnsville;
$825.59 at Pawn America in Bloomington on March 28, 2026;
$1,160 at Pawn Works in Burnsville on April 3;
$575 at Gold Guys in Bloomington on April 8;
$2,000 at Metro Pawn and Gun in Richfield on April 17;
$252 at Max It Pawn in Bloomington on April 18; and
$2,261.10 at Pawn America in Burnsville on April 25.
The complaint lists the Max It Pawn and Pawn America transactions immediately following the November 2025 entries as occurring on Nov. 26, 2026, and Dec. 4, 2026, respectively, and states that the relevant transaction period ran from November 2025 through April 2026. Limitless Media News is reporting the dates as they appear in the court document and has not independently resolved the apparent discrepancy, which should likely have been listed in 2025.
Prosecutors allege Hernandez Sosa pawned property totaling $13,573.69 between Nov. 13, 2025, and April 25, 2026. According to the complaint, authorities believe all of the property involved in those transactions had been stolen from the homes of clients Hernandez Sosa had been contracted to clean. That assertion is based on what prosecutors describe as Hernandez Sosa's admissions to law enforcement.
Another $12,299 in Property Allegedly Pawned
The second felony charge covers a shorter period, from May 7 through July 14, 2026. Investigators identified another series of transactions during those approximately two months, including:
$750 at Metro Pawn and Gun in Richfield on May 7;
$1,150 at Great Lakes Coins & Collectibles in Burnsville on May 19;
$2,632 at Pawn America in Bloomington on May 24;
$217 at Pawn America in Bloomington on June 15;
$4,457.20 at Great Lakes Coins & Collectibles on June 16;
$1,001.10 at Pawn America in Burnsville on June 28;
$341.10 at Pawn America in Burnsville on June 29; and
$1,751.10 at Pawn America in Burnsville on July 14.
Those transactions totaled $12,299.50, according to prosecutors. Again, the complaint alleges Hernandez Sosa admitted that the property he pawned had been stolen from homes he was contracted to clean. Taken together, the totals alleged in the two charging periods amount to $25,873.19 in pawn transactions.
The amount Hernandez Sosa allegedly received from pawn shops does not necessarily represent the retail or replacement value of the property allegedly stolen from the homes.
Prosecutors Request Release Conditions
A separate bail recommendation filed by the Dakota County Attorney's Office leaves the bail amount to the court's discretion while requesting several conditions of release. Prosecutors are asking that Hernandez Sosa be booked, remain in Minnesota unless he receives written court approval to leave the state and relinquish his passport to the court.
The Dakota County Attorney's Office is also asking the court to prohibit Hernandez Sosa from entering two Burnsville businesses: Pawn America at 13959 Grand Avenue S. and Great Lakes Coins & Collectibles at 14321 Nicollet Court. Additional requested conditions include that Hernandez Sosa remain law-abiding, make all future court appearances, and keep the court and his attorney informed of his current address.
Summons Issued in Case
The criminal complaint was approved by a Dakota County District Court judge on August 20, 2026, after the court found probable cause to support the charges. Rather than issuing an arrest warrant when the complaint was approved, the court issued a summons directing Hernandez Sosa to appear in court. The complaint states that a warrant may be issued if he fails to appear in response to the summons. Sosa’s first court appearance is set for September 29, 2026 at 9 AM in Hastings, Minnesota.
Hernandez Sosa is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. The allegations contained in the criminal complaint represent the prosecution's account of the case and have not yet been proven at trial.
