Homicide Investigation Underway After Man Fatally Shot at Canterbury Park Prayer Service Wednesday Morning

UPDATE: Shakopee Police confirm the victim in this case was 26-year-old Khalid Ibrahim Abdi from Shakopee, MN.

Shakopee Police also confirmed that they had arrested a suspect in connection with the homicide around 8:35 am on Thursday, May 28, 2026. He is being held in Scott County Jail pending charges.


ORIGINAL STORY - SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA: A shooting reported Wednesday morning near the Expo Center at Canterbury Park is now being investigated as a homicide, according to an updated release from the Shakopee Police Department.

Police said officers were called to Canterbury Park at approximately 9:55 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, for a weapons complaint. When officers arrived, they located a 26-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities said the victim had been attending a prayer service at the Expo Center. The victim was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries, according to police.

Investigators said the case has now officially become a homicide investigation. Authorities are actively working to identify the individuals involved, and no arrests have been announced as of Wednesday afternoon.

Police have not yet released additional details regarding a possible suspect, motive, or the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
