Chanhassen Man Charged After DoorDash Driver Allegedly Assaulted During Alcohol Delivery

CHANHASSEN MN: — A 20-year-old man is facing multiple charges after authorities allege a DoorDash alcohol delivery in Chanhassen turned violent when the driver refused to hand over the alcohol after an ID scan indicated the identification provided was fake.
Sadiq Abdi Mohamed, 20, is charged in Carver County District Court with two felony counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, one gross misdemeanor count of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct involving alleged nonconsensual sexual contact, and one misdemeanor count of purchasing or attempting to purchase alcohol while under 21.
According to the criminal complaint, Carver County Sheriff's Office deputies responded Sept. 14 to an apartment complex on the 700 block of Lake Susan Drive in Chanhassen for a reported assault.
Deputies arrived to find an adult male delivery driver outside the building with blood on his neck and an actively bleeding cut on his face, the complaint alleges.
The driver told investigators he was delivering a DoorDash order that included alcohol. Because the delivery involved alcohol, the recipient was required to provide identification before receiving it.
According to the complaint, Mohamed provided an ID that the driver's device indicated was fake. The driver allegedly told Mohamed he could provide the non-alcoholic items but could not give him the alcohol.
As the driver bent down to retrieve the other items, Mohamed allegedly shoved him and attempted to take the alcohol. The complaint alleges an altercation followed, during which Mohamed repeatedly struck the driver, squeezed his neck and made nonconsensual sexual contact with him.
Authorities allege Mohamed then went upstairs before returning with a glass vase filled with marbles. He allegedly raised the vase over his head and threw it at the driver, striking him in the chest and causing him to fall backward. The vase shattered on the floor.
Mohamed allegedly went upstairs again and returned with a knife. The complaint describes the weapon as having a long silver blade and a slightly curved black handle.
Prosecutors allege Mohamed advanced toward the driver while pointing the knife at him, causing the driver to fear for his life. Another adult male was reportedly present during that portion of the encounter.
Mohamed then went back upstairs and initially refused to come out after a significant law enforcement presence arrived, according to the complaint. With assistance from Mohamed's family, he eventually surrendered to authorities.
Investigators reported finding glass and blood in the apartment lobby, which they said appeared consistent with a significant struggle. During a search of the apartment, authorities also allegedly recovered a knife matching the driver's description.
Mohamed provided a statement to investigators and disputed the driver's account, according to the complaint. He denied initiating the physical altercation and alleged that the driver had pushed him against a wall and choked him. Investigators wrote that Mohamed provided differing descriptions of how that allegedly occurred.
The complaint states Mohamed also denied attempting to purchase alcohol through DoorDash and denied throwing the vase.
Each felony second-degree assault count carries a maximum possible sentence of seven years in prison, a $14,000 fine, or both. The fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct charge carries a maximum of 364 days in jail and/or a $3,000 fine, while the underage alcohol charge carries up to 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
The allegations contained in a criminal complaint are accusations, and Mohamed is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
