Chisago County Officials Clarify Erroneous Emergency Alert; No Known Threat to Public

Published: June 5th, 2026

CHISAGO COUNTY MN: Chisago County authorities are reassuring residents that there is no known threat to the community after an emergency alert was mistakenly distributed more broadly than intended Friday morning.

According to the Chisago County Sheriff's Office, an alert sent through Chisago County Dispatch was issued with the wrong subject header and reached a wider audience than intended.

The alert, which was transmitted as a Civil Emergency Message through the Emergency Alert System (EAS), initially referenced a weather emergency before later clarifying that the previous alert had been sent in error. The corrected message stated that authorities were searching for a male with an outstanding felony warrant who had fled on foot from the Harris area.

The Sheriff's Office said the notification was intended only for residents in the area east of the City of Harris near County Road 9 and Harder Avenue.

Authorities said an adult male known to law enforcement fled from officers in that area and is currently being sought on an outstanding warrant.

While deputies continue their search, officials emphasized that there is no indication of an immediate threat to the public.

"There is no known threat to our community," the Sheriff's Office stated in a clarification issued following the alert.

Residents in the area east of Harris near County Road 9 and Harder Avenue are encouraged to remain observant and report any suspicious activity to Chisago County Dispatch at 651-257-4100 or by calling 911.

The Sheriff's Office apologized for any confusion caused by the alert and said the message was inadvertently sent beyond its intended geographic area and included an incorrect subject line.
