Domestic disturbance in Cottage Grove prompts shelter-in-place; suspect fled home, warrant pending
Published: April 20th 2026
COTTAGE GROVE MN: A domestic disturbance call in Cottage Grove on Sunday evening led to a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents as officers searched a residence for a suspected individual.
According to Cottage Grove Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 7:38 p.m. on April 19, 2026, to the 8800 block of 89th Street Circle for a reported domestic disturbance.
After speaking with individuals who had been inside the home, officers developed probable cause for a domestic assault arrest and established a perimeter around the residence. A shelter-in-place order was issued for nearby homes out of an abundance of caution.
During the response, officers used multiple resources to assess the situation, including air support. Authorities reported that attempts to locate the suspected individual using cellphone data produced unreliable pings, making it difficult to determine whether the person remained inside the home.
Police deployed a drone and a robot into the residence to gather information while maintaining officer safety. Officers later entered the home and confirmed the individual was not inside.
Authorities believe the suspected individual fled the residence on foot around the time officers arrived, likely exiting from the rear of the home.
Officials said there is no known threat to the general public. An arrest warrant is pending a judge’s signature, and the investigation remains active.
