INVER GROVE HEIGHTS: A woman has been charged in Dakota County with theft of a motor vehicle after a U-Haul box truck rented from a dealer in Inver Grove Heights was allegedly not returned and later located near addresses associated with her, according to a criminal complaint.

According to the complaint, officers with the Inver Grove Heights Police Department responded on or about December 31, 2025, to First Class Auto Sales, 6370 Concord Boulevard in Inver Grove Heights, on a report of a vehicle theft.

An officer spoke with a regional manager for U-Haul, who reported that a 2012 Ford 15-foot box truck had been rented to Curry-Johnson on September 29, 2025, from that location and had not been returned. The complaint states the truck did not have GPS tracking due to its age, and the only known location indicator was a toll road charge in Florida.

According to the complaint, an officer contacted Curry-Johnson about the vehicle. She stated she had returned the truck but ended the call when asked where it had been returned. The complaint states the vehicle was not returned to First Class Auto Sales or any U-Haul location.

The complaint states the truck was later located on October 15, 2025, parked in the 1100 block of 6th Avenue South in St. Paul, approximately one block from the residence of Curry-Johnson’s boyfriend, identified in police reports as J.M.F.

On January 6, 2026, the truck was again located in a parking lot in the 1500 block of Motor Avenue in South St. Paul. According to the complaint, Curry-Johnson later provided an updated address of 1562 Motor Avenue in South St. Paul during a January 12, 2026 phone call. When confronted with the vehicle being found near that address, she stated “it’s not here” and maintained she had returned it. An officer checked the surrounding area but was unable to locate the truck at that time.

Curry-Johnson is charged with theft of a motor vehicle under Minnesota Statute 609.52.2(a)(1), a felony offense carrying a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and/or a fine between $3,000 and $10,000.

The case remains pending in Dakota County District Court. Curry-Johnson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
