Dakota County Sheriff’s Office Seeks Information After Man Found Dead in Mississippi River

DAKOTA COUNTY, MN: The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help as detectives investigate the death of a 40-year-old man whose body was located in the Mississippi River near Inver Grove Heights last week.
The Sheriff’s Office identified the man Monday as Timothy Bryan Standish Jr., 40. Standish was found deceased in the Mississippi River near Inver Grove Heights on Friday, August 14, 2026. Investigators are now working to learn more about Standish, including his recent activities and the people he may have been in contact with before his death.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Standish was known to have lived in the Stevens Square neighborhood of Minneapolis. Detectives are asking anyone who knew Standish, or who may have information about his friends, associates or recent activities, to contact investigators.
“Even the smallest detail may be important,” the Sheriff’s Office said in its request for information.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed how Standish died or provided additional information about the circumstances surrounding the discovery of his body. The Sheriff’s Office said additional details are being withheld because of the sensitive nature of the investigation and out of respect for Standish and his loved ones.
The agency’s request for information does not specify whether investigators believe Standish’s death involved foul play. No information has been released regarding how long he may have been in the river, where he may have entered the water, or what led investigators to seek additional information about his recent activities and associates.
The investigation remains ongoing.
